CAMPING LE CLOS DE BALLEROY

The family, very happy with their stay, tell us about their programme of visits during their holiday!

‘We wanted to start by doing activities close to the campsite and then move further away.’

Day 1: BalleroyCastle

‘It's really nice, the castle is very beautiful and if you take the tour, the history is very interesting. You can also visit the hot-air balloon museum, which is in an outbuilding. You can also visit the beautiful French gardens and, to finish on a high note, enjoy the tea room with a little madeleine or muffin for 4 o'clock! That's what we did, and we're very happy we did.

Day 2: ‘Les Ecuries d'Orage’ equestrian centre in Saint-Paul-du-Vernay

‘We wanted to give the little ones a treat, and there's nothing like taking them out riding! Our children were delighted! In the evening, we went to the campsite's home-made crêpes and galettes evening, which was delicious and very convivial!’

Day 3: The Etangs de Planquery

‘My husband and I love fishing, so we thought we'd teach the kids a thing or two by going to the Etangs de Planquery not far from the campsite. It was a relaxing afternoon in beautiful surroundings. We ate there and they make great traditional French food. I'd recommend it.

Day 4: Cycling in the Cerisy forest

‘For our 4th day, we wanted to do something more sporty as a family. So we booked 4 bikes with the bike hire company ‘ Loc vélo ’. They deliver them directly to the campsite, which is great! We set off from the campsite and cycled through the Cerisy forest, then through a number of small villages, including Litteau and Planquery ..... We found our itinerary on Komoot, I recommend this site, there's something for everyone! Alternatively, you can check out theIsigny Omaha Tourist Office website, which has some great ideas for tours. We loved our afternoon on the bikes and when we got home, we made the most of the campsite swimming pool to relax and in the evening, it was a mussels and chips evening with karaoke, really great!

Day 5: A day in Bayeux (Bayeux adventure + botanical garden + historic centre + cathedral)

‘We spent a whole day in Bayeux because we wanted to visit several places. We left early to go to Bayeux aventure, an adventure park with a zip line, and had a great time. The park has lots of activities for everyone, even the little ones. We loved the inflatable games, the zip lines and the accro spider. For thrill-seekers, there are even ejections and jumps into the void! At lunchtime, we had a picnic at one of the many tables on site, but you can also buy your own food. After Bayeux aventure, we popped over to the botanical gardens to let off some steam and, what's more, it's a pretty sight. We also recommend the historic centre, where you can walk around the little river Aure, where you can see an old water mill. I really like the houses and little cobbled streets in this area! And to finish off the day, we went to see Notre Dame de Bayeux cathedral when it started to get dark. It was illuminated, really magnificent! For those who want to, on Saturday evening there's also the campsite lottery where you can win tickets to museums, parks and activities, and there's a big prize at the end. We won a hi-fi system.

Day 6: Port en Bessin and its market

‘We were recommended the Port en Bessin market on arrival. It's on Sunday mornings from 9am to 1pm. There's a bit of everything: local produce, ready-to-wear clothes, manufactured goods, etc. It's a friendly market. There are also night markets there every Friday evening from 7pm in July and August, I'm told! Afterwards, you can wander around like we did to visit the pretty little fishing village.

Day 7: Arromanches les bains

‘We'd never seen the D-Day landing beaches, so we went to Arromanches les Bains, a 30-minute drive from the campsite. We were able to go for a walk as a family and also see the remains of the artificial harbour! We all took off our shoes during low tide to see it up close. Even for the kids, I thought it was educational! Afterwards, we had an ice cream on the dyke!

Day 8: Visit to ‘Les Caramels d'Isigny

‘We were reluctant to go to Isigny sur mer to see the famous Isigny caramels. But we went anyway, and in the end we loved it! We got to see how they're made, and there's even a tasting session at the end - it was great! The ice creams are exquisite too. We brought back some caramels as a souvenir!

Day 9: Caen

That day, we went to the Château de Caen, which we'd heard so much about! Frankly, we weren't disappointed. After the castle, you can wander around the historic Vaugueuxdistrict . Surprisingly, it's well preserved despite the passage of time. It's a charming place, with its cobbled streets and festive atmosphere and all its bars and restaurants. I recommend you eat there, it's worth it!

Day 10: Mont Saint Michel

‘Obviously, we couldn't miss the must-see: Le Mont Saint Michel! A visit to the Mont is a real treat, with lots of narrow cobbled streets going up and down. I think it's a must-see, both for the view over the bay and for its unique atmosphere. The children also loved running around these little streets. We left early because it's a 1-hour drive to get there, so we ate there in one of the little restaurants overlooking the bay! I'd also recommend it! For the more adventurous, you can even go for walks in the quicksand with a guide!’

Day 11: Village of Beuvron-en-Auge + The Côte Fleurie (Cabourg, Deauville-Trouville, Honfleur)

‘On our last day, we visited sites that were on our way home. We live in Belgium, so we were heading east. We stopped off in the village of Beuvron-en-Auge, which has been designated one of France's most beautiful villages. There are typical half-timbered houses, manor houses, little pontoons and streams. It's magnificent and full of flowers! And to finish off, we went to Cabourg, then Deauville and Trouville, then Honfleur, what's known as the ‘ flowery coast ’. They're beautiful towns with lovely beaches, pretty villas and lots to do! Unfortunately, we had to get back.
